Thanks for making me giggle first thing in the morning! I'm not sure if this is what the author meant, but I believe it means that what you create (the pie) is first created by the universe. The ingredients like the apple came from a tree that grew on soil that was nourished by water that came from clouds that precipitated because of dust particles and so on and so forth...
